Pure Heroin

Hey all! So for this Project, I took an existing magazine article from Wired and did my own interpretation. This is the original magazine, article and photograph.

Final Black and White Sketch:
Ended up working on a cold press watercolor illustration board that was particularly difficult to get detail work but I managed to get it to look like I wanted. Probably will not use that board again.

I changed the text and layout a bit from the first one and I feel its more effective.

  1. Wow Morgann, a powerful piece. The way the woman stands with outstretched arms between the symmetrical drug paraphernalia reminded me of a crucifixion scene. Is there some intentional symbolism? I love the detail, and especially her standing against the backdrop of what I think is a tattooed arm. I also love that everything is rather muted, not bright and sharp like the original illustration; it' how I imagine someone under the influence might see things. If I was browsing through a magazine rack and came across "Wired" showing both your illustration and the original, I would be drawn to the complexity of yours. Well done.
